The Brazilian Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Institute (IBP) is part of a partners’ network of the United Against Covid-19 program, of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). Through its associated companies, Total and Galp (local Petrogal Brasil), the Institute will contribute with financial resources to strengthen the emergency fund that will support the production of molecular and rapid tests, the expansion of sample testing capacity and the realization of research related to the treatment of the disease.

By the unidos.fiocruz.br platform, Fiocruz allows private and public organizations and individuals to donate to expand the actions to face the health emergency.

“This partnership between the oil and gas sector and a center of excellence in the health segment, such as the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, becomes essential when we need to join all efforts to ensure the well-being of our society. The IBP is making efforts to promote all possible support to fight this pandemic”, analyses Clarissa Lins, IBP president.

Learn about the main actions promoted by United Against COVID-19 movement:

Production of Diagnostic Kits: intended to supply the network of public laboratories across the country, part of the Unified Health System (SUS). With the increase in cases worldwide, Fiocruz is using its maximum capacity to produce tests, both molecular and rapid, and seeking partners and international suppliers in order to complement the offer of diagnostic kits to serve the Ministry of Health.

Patient care: construction of a rapid assembly hospital unit, with 200 exclusive beds for intensive and semi-intensive treatment for critically ill patients infected with the new coronavirus. The Covid-19 Pandemic Hospital Center – National Institute of Infectious Disease will promote the expansion of access to ICU beds and mechanical ventilation, in order to reduce the burden on the health system and, thus, the lethality of the disease.

Medicines: management, in Brazil, of the Solidarity clinical trial (Solidarity), launched by the World Health Organization (WHO). The initiative aims to investigate the effectiveness of four treatments for the new coronavirus implemented in 18 hospitals in 12 states, with support from the Ministry of Health.

Training: the qualification of public laboratories for the diagnosis of the new coronavirus is essential to face the pandemic. Since the beginning of the year, Fiocruz has been training professionals from the Central Public Health Laboratories (Lacens) in the country.

Neighboring communities: awareness-raising and distribution of inputs aimed at residents of the Manguinhos region, aiming to help to prevent and reduce the transmission of the new coronavirus.

Reliable communication: production of clear and secure information about the new coronavirus to disseminate quality data to society via the press, in addition to training journalists through thematic workshops and the production of videos and information materials for health professionals.

The document, published at the IBP website, deliver the agenda of the assembly, such as the election of the president, resolution on the proposal for amendment of the bylaws and other matters of interest to the Institute.

All associated members are eligible to attend the EGA. However, only maintaining, industry and collaborating membership categories have voting power in the deliberations of the Assembly, the maximum body of the IBP.

Those interested in attending must confirm their presence and submit written voting rights proxy on behalf of the company to assembleia@ibp.org.br until October 24^th. The document submission is mandatory for EGA participation.

According to Milton Costa Filho, the promise of new bid rounds and new projects led the industry to develop a long term vision, and companies to invest in development.  “We will have a lot of opportunities in the next two decades. And I share this optimism due to what we hear here in IBP. This networking promoted by IBP is interesting, many associated members from different areas. And this is one advantage of joining IBP”, affirmed.

Planning is the main question operators, suppliers and service providers need to think about, according to Antonio Guimarães, IBP E&P executive secretary. “The main opportunity for us is to think about planning, the tasks for all of us is being ready for the future that’s coming. The opportunities are available. It’s our duty do it altogether”, concluded Guimarães.

For Ricardo Oheb, from MSA Recursos Humanos, IBP association represents an active participation and proximity of oil industry at this moment of economic recovery. “We understand we can’t be far from oil and gas industry. This space for networking is interesting. We believe we will learn, and also contribute to the sector”, explained

Larry Keeley, Deloitte innovation leader and Singularity University professor, presented the current scenario of innovation in the world, highlighting Brazil has a great potential to become an innovator country and IBP has a fundamental role to guide the oil and gas industry transformation process due to its mediator profile between industry and society. The consultant also explained some methodologies that add to innovation process and how they can be incorporated to IBP activities.

“Since there is a giant gap between the industry’s progress and what society expects and needs, IBP must have a deep agenda for innovation and be on the front line in trying to solve this problem. This is why innovation in IBP matters”, explained Larry.

The Deloitte-IBP Workshop is an initiative that belongs to ITC Rio: Industry Transformation Cycle, an event organized through a partnership between both companies, which integrates corporate leaders, government representatives, business and class associations and academics to discuss the entire transformation ecosystem that impacts companies and society.

Anelise Lara, Petrobras Executive Director of Refining and Natural Gas, and Carlos Alberto Pereira de Oliveira, Exploration and Production (E&P) Executive Director, were elected to serve on the IBP Board of Directors. Marcelo Araújo, Ipiranga President, Mariano Vela, Chevron Brasil President, and Júlio César Ribeiro, Supergasbras Director-President, were also elected to serve on the IBP Board for a four-year term.

To the Financial Board, current members Ana Paula Zettel, Petrobras Federal External Relations Manager, Adauto Pereira, from Enauta, Gustavo Bursztyn, Shell CFO, and the deputies Sandro Henriques, Repsol Sinopec Economic and Administrative Manager, and Valéria Martins, Ipiranga Internal Controls Manager, were re-elected for another year in office. Carlos Eduardo Glech Cordeiro, PetroRio Controller, was elected new Board deputy member.

Cláudio Oliveira, Raízen Director of External Relations & Sustainability, and Mauro Andrade, Equinor Supply Chain Vice-president, were re-elected for a two-year term in the Executive Board due to three vacancies open from the coming mandates to expire. Marcelo Menicucci, Midstream Shell General Manager, leaves the Executive Board and Cristiano Pinto da Costa, general manager for Lula, Sapinhoá, Iracema e Lapa field’s, will take the vacant seat.
